Meet the WFC Staff

Julaine K. Appling, CEO

Julaine is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, where at the age of 5 months, she was adopted into the loving home of Bob and Mary Appling. Following college, Julaine moved to Wisconsin, where she has lived for most of the intervening years. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Humanities, a B.S. in English Education, and a Master of Science in Educational Administration and Supervision. Through the years she has done additional graduate-level course work at UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee.

During the nearly 10 years Julaine spent in the classroom in Wisconsin, she taught on the junior high, high school, and college levels. Her primary teaching areas have been history, government, English, and education courses. In addition, for 5 years Julaine was the administrator of a private school; and she has also been office manager for a small law firm in Milwaukee.

In October, 1997, Julaine came to work at The Wisconsin Family Council (WFC) as Director of Office Operations. She served in that capacity until November, 1998, when she was asked to become the Executive Director of WFC.

As Executive Director, Julaine is responsible to the Board of Directors for the overall operation of WFC. As a part of her responsibilities, Julaine writes and produces WFC's weekly radio broadcast, "Wisconsin Family Connection," which is currently aired on about 25 Christian radio stations around the state. In addition, she hosts VCY America's Home Front radio program each Wednesday afternoon from September through May. Most recently, Julaine has become a statewide leader in the effort to preserve traditional one-man/one-woman marriage in Wisconsin.

Throughout the years, Julaine has had the opportunity to speak on a variety of topics to a variety of groups. She has presented numerous workshops at education conventions, conducted in-service seminars for private schools, and has also spoken in churches and for home-education groups, as well as to a variety of community and civic organizations, such as Rotary Clubs and women's groups.

Presently, Julaine lives in Watertown, WI, where she is active in her local church. In April 2000, she was elected to the Watertown Unified School District Board of Education and was re-elected in 2003. While on the school board, Julaine held the offices of treasurer and vice president. Effective February 1, 2005, Julaine resigned from the school board in order to be able to devote more time to WFC. Her School Board committee appointments included Curriculum and Goals, Policy Review, Legislative, and Strategic Planning. She has also, through mayoral appointment, served on the Watertown Public Library Board of Trustees , and is the immediate past president of that board. In early 2004, Julaine was appointed by the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors to the Jefferson County Library Council. In addition Julaine is presently on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Abstinence Coalition. She has also served on the board of directors of the Wisconsin Coalition Against Gambling Expansion.

Judith Ford Brant, Office Administrator

Judith grew up in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, and India. Her father was a Church of the Brethren pastor who later became an international YMCA secretary in India. She completed high school at the Kodaikanal International School, Tamil Nadu, India and returned to the United States to attend Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, where she majored in German.

After college, Judith worked for the National Geographic Society and Communications Satellite Corporation (COMSAT) in Washington, D.C. She was an assistant clerk on the staff of the United States Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations during the chairmanship of Senator Henry "Scoop" Jackson.

Judith was a member of the first board of Pro-Life Wisconsin and is currently secretary/treasurer of its Dane County affiliate. She joined the staff of Wisconsin Family Council as Office Administrator in July 2000.
