…Controversial virtual school compromise signed into law
Belaying concerns that he would veto the bill, Governor Doyle signed into law on Monday, April 7 th, Senate Bill (SB) 396, the controversial virtual school compromise. On December 5 th, a state appeals court ruled against the Wisconsin Virtual Academy in the Northern Ozaukee School District and in favor of the Wisconsin Educators Association Council (WEAC), sparking a statewide virtual school debate. Wisconsin’s Coalition of Virtual School Families reports that it is pleased the bill was signed into law but disappointed about the provisions lost in the compromise. More…
…Reedsburg elementary school encourages students to cross-dress during “Wacky Week”
Students at Pineview Elementary in Reedsburg dress in costume throughout the school’s annual “Wacky Week.” On Friday of last week, however, during the annual “Wacky Week,” students were encouraged by the school to dress as either senior citizens or as members of the opposite sex. The AP reports that despite the district administrator’s claim that the encouraged cross-dressing was not meant to promote cross-dressing or homosexuality, citizens were upset by the school’s actions. …Elmbrook School Board considering controversial human growth & development curriculum (this post contains information not suitable for children)
On Tuesday night of this week, the Elmbrook School Board received a presentation from their newly created human growth & development (i.e. Sex Ed.) committee recommending a human growth & development curriculum for the school district. The committee, which was created when the district realized it was in violation of state laws requiring a review of Sex Ed. curriculum every 3 years, is recommending a curriculum that would expose sixth graders to dangerous sexual activities in order to warn them that it could cause STD’s. Concerned parents showed up at the meeting, some to speak in favor and some against, according to the superintendent’s office. The item is set for discussion at the next board meeting on April 22. …Eau Claire Sex Ed. teacher ‘outs’ herself to seventh grade students
Parents were upset that the school did not inform them of teacher Stephanie Rowe’s intent to tell her five classes of seventh-grade students that she was lesbian. South Middle School Principal John Wallace said that Rowe told him she intended to tell the students she was lesbian that day during the question-and-answer period of the human growth & development unit (Sex Ed.) that she teaches. Wallace regrets that the school lost the trust of some parents by failing to inform them of Rowe’s plans. More…
AROUND THE NATION
…Women’s right to choose becomes right to selectively kill unborn baby girls
A new study published recently in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) reveals that sex-selective abortions, common in countries where sons are desired over daughters, are now occurring in the United States as well. Some Chinese, Korean and Indian parents in the United States have used abortion to control the gender of their children. In Europe, controversy surrounds a program that is allegedly helping to fund sex-selective abortions in Asia. More…
…National OBGYN group reconsiders abortion-promoting policy
The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) is reconsidering a policy that allegedly would have required the promotion of abortion as a certification requirement for doctors. Last year, the ACOG released a policy statement called “The Limits of Conscientious Refusal in Reproductive Medicine.” According to LifeNews.com, ACOG is now reconsidering the policy that could have required physicians opposed to abortion to, among other things, refer abortions or risk termination. The policy prompted Mike Leavitt, Secretary of Health and Human Services, to write a letter to the board encouraging them to change the policy. More…
…Thousands rally at Oklahoma State Capitol to support Rep. Sally Kern
After her remarks against the homosexual-agenda at a Republican meeting were secretly recorded and posted on YouTube, Rep. Kern received instant notoriety, along with thousands of hate-filled emails and calls from homosexuals. Last week, however, almost 2,000 Oklahomans rallied at the State Capitol to support Rep. Kern’s stand against the homosexual agenda and refusal to apologize for her beliefs. More…
…School’s decision to include contraceptive devices in “prom bag” upsets parents
The Bisbee School Board in Arizona voted 4-1 to include contraceptive devices among the candy, balloons and picture frames usually included in the school’s “prom bags.” The bags are handed out to the students on prom nights. The local newspaper’s report that Bisbee High School students would receive a gift bag on prom night that contained two contraceptive devices outraged some parents. More…
…Abortion rate for African-American women disproportionate to other ethnic groups
FOX News reports that African-American women have a much higher rate of abortion than white women or other minority groups. In 2000, African-Americans constituted 17% of live births but 36% of abortions, eclipsing the ratio between the 78% of live births and 57% of abortions for white women by a large margin. Earlier this year, UCLA students posted recordings of Planned Parenthood accepting donations specifically for the abortion of African-American babies. More…
