Pro-family group alleges Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler too tainted to be unbiased in cases involving same-sex “marriage” or benefits

On Friday, March 28, Wisconsin Family Action, the legislative action arm of Wisconsin Family Council, filed a formal request for investigation with the Wisconsin Judicial Commission charging that Justice Butler compromised his ability to render fair and impartial decisions on cases affecting so-called “gay-rights” and marriage. Last week, WFA broke the news that Butler accepted contributions from the pro-homosexual-marriage party to a case currently before the State Supreme Court. In an earlier press release, WFC outlines reasons to be concerned about Butler’s ability to remain impartial in marriage and family cases before the State Supreme Court.

Federal Judge protects free speech in Wisconsin

On Thursday, March 27, Federal Judge J.P. Stadtmueller’s issued an order enjoining the enforcement of a Wisconsin campaign finance law against a resident of Whitewater, John Swaffer. Swaffer wanted to send postcards to his friends in the Town of Whitewater opposing a referendum authorizing liquor sales but the law requires public registration for anyone spending more than $25 or donating $100 or more to support or defeat a referendum. First Freedoms Foundation general counsel Mike Dean and Attorney James Bopp and the James Madison Center represent John Swaffer. More…

Church sues Wauwatosa for taxing a church-owned house in 2007

The City of Wauwatosa billed Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church $3,759.57 for property taxes in 2007 on a church-owned house. The church claims the house is used by their custodian, who opens the church each day at 7 or 8 a.m. and locks it up at 10 p.m. The lawsuit is based on the claim that the house is used for religious purposes and should be tax-exempt. Wisconsin District Court of Appeals hands down mixed decision on pharmacist’s freedom of conscience

A March 25 th Wisconsin Court of Appeals decision ruled that Menomonee Falls pharmacist Neil Noesen has a right to refuse to fill a birth control prescription for conscientious reasons based on his religious beliefs. However, Judge Michael Hoover noted that state Pharmacy Examining Board acted correctly when it reprimanded Noesen and limited his license because Noesen refused to transfer the prescription when the woman went to another pharmacy and tried to fill the prescription there. Ironically, earlier this month, the state Senate passedSB 232; a bill that requires pharmacists to fill all FDA approved prescriptions. The bill, which did not contain a religious or conscientious exemption, died in the Assembly without a vote with the end of the legislative session this month More…

Florida Planned Parenthood Affiliates ordered to close for financial discrepancies and medical problems

After receiving complaints from board members for 18 months, the national Planned Parenthood Federation finally ordered Planned Parenthood of South Palm Beach and Broward Counties to close clinics in five cities. The Federation cited “deficiencies” in the clinics’ conditions, medical operations, policies and procedures as the cause of the closure. The Palm Beach post reports that the clinics are merely “limiting their services.” More…

Convicted Felon Jack Kevorkian running for Congress

Jack Kevorkian, who served eight years for the murder of Thomas Youk, and who claims to have “helped” at least 130 people die, is running for Michigan’s 9 th District seat, currently held by Republican Joe Knollenberg. Kevorkian, who is almost 80 years old, has voted only once in his life. If he wins the seat, he will attempt to use the Ninth Amendment of the US Constitution to legalize assisted suicide. More…

Happily Married? Healthy Heart!

Being happily married really is healthier after all! A Brigham Young Universitystudy of 204 married and 99 single adults shows that happily married adults tend to have lower blood pressure than singles. Having a supportive social network did not help lower blood pressure for the single adults. Perhaps not surprisingly, unhappily married adults had higher blood pressure than both happily married adults and single adults. More…

...Some hope for California homeschoolers

The California Court of Appeals that handed down the highly controversial ruling barring parents without teaching credentials from schooling their children at home has agreed to reconsider their February decision. The Home School Legal Defense Association claims that by granting the reconsider, the court’s prior decision is vacated and no longer binding on anyone, including the parties to the case. More…
