... Stem-cell research breakthrough at UW-Madison reshapes controversy over human embryonic stem cell research
Dr. James Thomson, stem cell pioneer at UW-Madison, and Prof. Yamanaka of Kyoto University, Japan, released papers last week in the online journals Science and Cell, respectively, reporting on research showing that embryonic-type cells can be produced from ordinary human cells, such as skin cells, without creating an embryo. More... Dr. David Prentice, Family Research Council's Senior Fellow for Life Sciences, Center for Human Life and Bioethics, has issued an analysis of this breakthrough research.

... Joint resolution to rename State Holiday Tree to Wisconsin State Christmas Tree to receive public hearing this week
Assembly Joint Resolution (AJR) 5, a bill that would restore the name "State of Wisconsin Christmas Tree" to the decorated tree in the State Capitol rotunda, will receive a public hearing on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 in room 415 NW, State Capitol, at 1:30 p.m. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Marlin Schneider (D-Wisconsin Rapids).

Focus on the Family's The Truth Project has announced local training events in Hastings, MN, February 9, 2008 and in Appleton, WI, April 5, 2008. These events are for those who have committed to leading The Truth Project in small groups. The Truth Project staff will facilitate these events.

Earlier this month the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that supporters of Colorado for Equal Rights could begin to collect the approximately 76,000 signatures needed to put their personhood initiative on the November 2008 ballot. The initiative would amend the state constitution in three places to redefine "person" to include the unborn. More...

Liberty Counsel launched its fifth annual Friend or Foe Christmas Campaign, with a "Naughty & Nice" list of retailers who censor Christmas from their advertising and displays and those who recognize Christmas.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel today published an op-ed by Julaine K. Appling, Wisconsin Family Council CEO, on the court challenge to Wisconsin's Marriage Protection Amendment. Earlier this month Alliance Defense Fund filed an amicus brief on behalf of Wisconsin Family Council, arguing that Bill McConkey, who filed a lawsuit seeking to prevent the amendment from being enforced, does not have grounds to sue.

  • Pro-Life Wisconsin is accepting reservations for the January 22, 2008 35th Annual March for Life. Buses will leave Wisconsin on Saturday, January 19 and return Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Details.
  • Helping Hands Outreach of Verona, WI operates a ministry out of the West Madison Bible Church. It offers a food pantry, clothing, and help preparing for job searches or interviews. It is open every Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information call Joel,  at  608-845-9518.
