... Budget passes legislature
The legislature passed the compromise budget earlier this week, on a vote of 60 to 39 in the Assembly and 18 to 15 in the Senate. The compromise budget removed men and boys (more...) from the Medicaid Family Planning demonstration project; however, it increased access to the program by raising the eligibility from 185% to 200% of the federal poverty level (more...). (Read about other budget items here.) Healthy Wisconsin, the $15 billion state health care program, was not included in the compromise budget.

... Vote on ENDA pushed to next week
A House of Representatives vote scheduled for yesterday on H.R. 3685, the "Employment Non-Discrimination Act," has been postponed until at least next week. An earlier version, H.R. 2015, made discrimination on the basis of "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" illegal. The religious community forcefully opposed this bill in light of its potential impact on religious liberty. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass), the author of H.R. 2015, allowed that bill to stay in committee and late last month quietly introduced two similar bills, H.R. 3685, that makes discrimination on the basis of "sexual orientation" illegal, and H.R. 3686, that prohibits discrimination on the basis of "gender identity." H.R. 3686 was referred last week to the House Subcommittee on Health, Employment,
Labor, and Pensions. (More...)
... Wisconsin Family Council signs onto letter to US Representatives urging ban on federal funding of Planned Parenthood
Wisconsin Family Council joined nearly 60 other pro-family organizations in a letter to US Representatives urging them to immediately suspend federal funding of Planned Parenthood until it can be determined whether that organization has violated state and federal laws. The letter refers to the pending Kansas criminal lawsuit against Planned Parenthood for illegally performing late-term abortions, falsifying documents to conceal that fact, and failing to comply with required medical reporting guidelines. A hearing in the case is set for Nov. 16.
