... Assembly companion bill redefining abortion introduced
Late last month Rep Christine Sinicki (D-Milwaukee) introduced AB 467 (companion bill to SB 232) that changes the current statutory definition of abortion as "the intentional destruction of the life of an unborn child, and 'unborn child' means a human being from the time of conception until it is born alive." The proposed definition of abortion reads, "the intentional destruction of . . . an embryo or fetus, but does not include the use, administration, delivery, prescribing, or dispensing of any federal−food−and−drug−administration−approved contraceptive." (Word Games, Wisconsin Family Connection radio commentary)

... Milwaukee sting operation results in feolny charges against PrideFest children's events coordinator
Earlier this year an Oconomowoc woman contacted police after she discovered explicit emails between her foster son and David Bodoh, the children's events coordinator at this year's Milwaukee PrideFest. A state agent posing as the boy arranged to meet Bodoh, who was arrested when he arrived at the meeting place. Bodoh has been charged with using a computer to facilitate a sex crime. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison and $100,000 in fines. Read more...

... Ohio state supreme court rules domestic violence laws do not violate state marriage protection amendment
Late last month the Supreme Court of Ohio ruled in The State of Ohio vs. Carswell that protections of Ohio's domestic violence law are available to victims of criminal acts regardless of their legal status. Michael Carswell, the defendant in this case, had argued that the domestic violence law applied only to married couples because it contained the phrase, "living as a spouse." Read more...

... Florida marriage amendment on track for November 2008 ballot
Florida4Marriage.org, the organization leading the effort to put Florida's marriage protection amendment on the November 2008 ballot, has collected an estimated 650,000 petition signatures; 611,009 signatures are required for the measure to be on the ballot. The amendment is similar to Wisconsin's marriage amendment approved by voters in November 2006; it "protects marriage as the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife and provides that no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."
