As we continue our series on “Are we losing America,” we begin today with some statistics that may shock you. In 1988, 74.9% of the American public thought that sex between two people of the same gender was always wrong. In as few as ten years, 1998, that same percentage had fallen to 54.6%.

Such figures beg the question: What is the driving force behind this massive swing in public attitudes in such a relatively short period of time? The answer lies embedded within a larger and more sweeping societal change that has been underway in our country for many decades now. Today, we are looking at what has become known as the homosexual agenda, or the calculated and strategic efforts of those who are working to undermine God’s authority by indoctrinating our culture to accept homosexuality as natural, normal and healthy.

As we begin, I want to remind us that while Scripture has some long lists of sins, some more serious than others because of their impact, all sin is wicked in the eyes of God. We are all sinners who deserve condemnation, and it is only because of the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ that we can be forgiven and reconciled to our Creator God the Father and have eternal life. Christ has compassion on the sinner; and so must we as His followers. While we strongly uphold truth and righteousness, we cannot approach any individuals with animosity. That approach does little to win a person to what they need most—personal saving faith in Jesus Christ.

However, as followers of Jesus Christ, we cannot sit idly by while our society, which has its roots in Judeo-Christian values and principles, becomes victimized by people actively seeking to eradicate those very values and principles. No activist movement exists worldwide today to legalize theft, adultery, lying or murder, with the notable exception of abortion. But there is a mobilized movement that challenges God’s truth on a daily basis, in the most public and bold ways, in regard to homosexual behavior.

The homosexual agenda is a four-part plan initiated by homosexual activists in the early 1970s to reach their goal of unbridled sexual behavior and silencing of the church. The first stage is called the community establishment stage, where homosexuals begin to form a social/political network to begin playing a larger role in society. This happened years ago in Wisconsin, with Madison as the epicenter.

The next stage is the organization stage, where this social/political network begins to feel empowered and starts to get organized and developed with the goal in mind to legitimize their behavior in society. Think Gay/Straight Alliances in our public schools and Fair Wisconsin.

Then there’s the mobilization stage. This is where the network begins pooling resources and presenting its case to the public. Look no further than last year’s campaign to pass Wisconsin’s Marriage Protection Amendment. Pro-homosexual opponents of the amendment outspent supporters nearly 7-1, largely because of their vast TV ad campaign.

And the last stage is the legitimization stage. Once the issue has been redefined from a moral absolute to an individual choice or an inborn characteristic, society starts to be reprogrammed that the arguments of the group are valid. Evidence? There are so many I hardly no where to start. For a recent one, note that just last week the Milwaukee Area Technical College Board of Directors voted to have taxpayers fund domestic partnership benefits for those MATC employees.

It doesn’t take much stretch of the imagination to figure out why homosexual behavior over any other sin was chosen in this plan to change our very culture and society. The reason God calls homosexual behavior an abomination is that such behavior flies in the face of His design. Homosexual behavior undermines the authority and divine creative order of the Creator—male and female created He them—and the institutions He loves, namely the family and the church. Not only that, but a distinct part of the plan is to silence the church by legally removing its ability to present biblical truth. In many European countries and even in Canada, criminal hate speech laws have been and are being used to prosecute pastors and Christians who speak the biblical truth about homosexuality.

Just because we are obviously in stage 4 of this high orchestrated, incredibly well funded effort, does not mean we are done fighting this agenda. We must end our collective silence. God’s people need to wake from our sleep and get actively involved in our government and in our communities to influence our culture. We can’t afford any more advancing of this unnatural, abnormal and unhealthy agenda.
